Traveling for hours or just 15 minutes up the road isn’t always easy and snack free. I NEVER leave the house without some form of snack in my bag, purse, or car. I just don’t do it. Because I know that if I get even a little hungry I will be tempted to stop somewhere and grab a quick snack that isn’t always the healthiest option. Not because I don’t have self-control, but because there isn’t always a healthy option available. So over time I have come up with some ideas that work for our family so that life is simpler and we are able to snack freely without worry about what kind of junk we will pick up on the way. Now don’t get me wrong, we indulge occasionally because ummmm we are human. But we have figured out how to not over indulge to where we are miserable or regretting our choices.
Equipment is essential to making this work, but also does not need to be overly complicated. There are so many different types of containers you can use, but don’t make it difficult. We simply use our meal prep containers. We have some with two compartments and others with three. Amazon has a 10 pack for $10.
Lunch box or cooler is needed to keep the food at a safe temperature until you eat the food. With ice packs we are able to have our food packed throughout the day for our evening activities because we aren’t always able to make it home from work/school before whatever activity we are going to. Travel silverware or plastic ware for the non-finger foods. We also have reusable water bottles and growlers with extra water.

Kids Activities
We are an extremely busy family. I have been asked by numerous people how we always manage to stay busy and sane. LOL. I wish the sane part were true, but I guess we look like we are staying sane which counts for something. Our oldest has been in some type of sport since he was 3 and any parent who has had a child play a sport knows that those nights or weekends can be tough especially when you have full time working parents. Well, it gets even better with child number two because of course they want to be like their big sibling and play sports too. This is where we are currently at in life. Our oldest is playing lacrosse 2 days a week and just signed up the little to play soccer. Luckily his is only one night a week, but that still means we are busy 3 weeknights!!! Who is crazy enough to do that and thinks they are going to keep eating healthy??
It’s actually not too hard once I sat down and brainstormed some ideas for ways to snack or eat on the go. For kiddos, the power of bento boxes is amazing because you can put so many different things in them! Variety is key. Heck, you can even make some for the adults. I am a huge fan of not recreating the wheel. This is where Pinterest has become my all time favorite go to. There are so many super smart and creative people out there who have shared their ideas. I take those ideas and adjust to meet my family’s needs and tastes.
- Meat Rolls, Crackers, Grapes, Carrot Sticks
- Pineapple Fried Rice, Diced Chicken, Cucumbers
- Avocado Chicken Salad, Crackers, Apple Slices, Pepper Slices w/ Hummus
- Tuna Salad, Crackers, Orange Slices, Cherry Tomatoes
- Turkey Wrap, Strawberries, Sliced Boiled Eggs, Sugar Snap Peas
- Grilled Chicken Nuggets, Tomato/Cucumber/Black Olive Kabobs, Berry Medley

I’m telling you, life can be healthy and simple. Does not need to be overly complicated to help you reach your goal of taking control or maintaining your health and sanity. I know, I know. Grabbing fast food is truly the simpler way but sometimes when we think we are making the healthy option it really isn’t that good for us. Have you ever really looked at what comes in those salads you order at the restaurants? There is so much stuff in those like the dairy, the croutons, the sugared dried fruit, the dressing, the bacon. Plus the not knowing where exactly the vegetables came from.
But the point of this isn’t to show you the bad of eating out (I may talk about that in a different post). The point is to show you how to easily put together make and take snacks and meals, right? The possibilities truly are endless and once you figure out what works for your family it’s super easy and fast. I would love to hear your ideas!! Drop me a comment 👇
